Ebro Darden recently made headlines for calling out the famous rapper Drake for his silence on Black issues. The criticism came after Drake dissed Childish Gambino’s song “This Is America” during his performance at the It’s All a Blur Tour in Chicago.
On July 12, Ebro Darden engaged in a conversation on Apple Music’s Rap Life Review series with Nadeska Alexis and Lowkey, where they discussed Drake’s shade towards Childish Gambino’s 2018 single. At the 19:23-mark of the video, Ebro expressed his disappointment in Drake’s lack of engagement on important social matters within the Black community.
Despite being a self-proclaimed big fan of Drake, Ebro pointed out that the rapper has never spoken up about issues concerning Black people or anything beyond his own personal interests. The conversation among the Rap Life Review hosts highlighted the fact that they don’t expect Drake to address such significant topics, considering his previous silence on the matter.
The controversy arose after Drake dissed Childish Gambino during his It’s All a Blur Tour performance on July 5 at Chicago’s United Center. A headline displayed at the bottom of the stage read, “The overrated and over-awarded hit song, ‘This Is America,’ was originally a Drake diss record.” Childish Gambino had previously admitted that his song “This Is America” started as a diss towards Drake.
