Echo was first introduced in Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now there’s a spinoff show on the character and the trailer was exclusively unveiled at the D23 Expo in Anaheim.

It shows Echo continuing her fight and towards the end, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin returns, wearing an eye patch. Echo or Maya Lopez was introduced as a supporting character in the Disney+ series on Marvel’s expert archer.

Who is Echo?

Echo was created by David Mack and Joe Quesada in 1999 as a supporting character to Daredevil, the blind protector of Hell’s Kitchen. In Hawkeye, Echo becomes the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, a criminal gang that’s working under Kingpin.

The spinoff will see Lopez leave New York for her hometown, where she plans on connecting with her roots but falls into a very different crisis.

Echo learnt to understand what her teacher was saying by reading her lips. Lopez’s father was initially leading the Tracksuit Mafia and encouraged his daughter’s martial arts training, teaching her that speed is more effective than size in a battle. However, witnessing her father’s death at the hands of Ronin put Echo on the path of vengeance, which Kingpin decided to use for his benefit.

Echo, at one time, teams up with Hawkeye and Kate Bishop hoping to find Ronin, but later learns that Hawkeye is Ronin himself. She also comes across the information that Kingpin was the one who had her father killed and joins forces with Hawkeye against Kingpin.

A hardened criminal, used to getting her way, found her vengeance boiling over upon learning the truth of Kingpin’s involvement in her father’s murder. She shot the crime boss coldly despite him raising her as his adopted daughter. Echo can also mimic martial arts moves of opponents just by seeing them, making her a feared combatant.

Echo arrives on Disney+ next summer and gives viewers a look at an indigenous superhero.
