Eddy Kenzo, the Ugandan singer and music executive, received a nomination at the 2023 Grammy Awards in the Best Global Music Performance category, becoming the first musician from Uganda to do so. The nominations for the 2023 Grammys were announced on Tuesday, November 15, by the Royal Academy. 

Kenzo received the nomination for his feature on American singer Matt B’s song titled Gimme Love.

Who is Eddy Kenzo?

Eddy Kenzo was born on December 25, 1989, in Masaka, Uganda. His real name is Edrisah Musuuza. His mother died in his early childhood years and he grew up on the streets of Masaka and Kampala. He aspired to be a footballer as a footballer when he was young and also joined the Masaka Local Council FC aged 9.

Since starting his music career using the stage name Eddy Kenzo, he has released five albums and at least 17 singles. His big moment came when his 2010 single Stamina was used as a theme song by many politicians in the 2011 Ugandan general elections.

Kenzo branched out of his career as a singer and established Big Talent Entertainment, a production venture, and continues to work on it. 

Kenzo received various local, national, and international honours, including the BET Award in 2015, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award in 2018, and numerous All Africa Music Awards.

Kenzo was in a romantic relationship with Ugandan recording artist Rema Namakula. They also have a daughter together, born on December 26, 2014. However, they separated in mid-2019, and Rema got engaged to her former doctor Hamza Ssebunya.
