On March 7, Plenel reported Maiwenn to the police for allegedly acting aggressively when he was eating in a restaurant. The director allegedly grabbed Plenel by the hair and spat in his face while alone at a nearby table before leaving the establishment. Plenel said in the complaint that the incident “traumatized” him.

Plenel now tells Variety that he thinks Maiwenn spat on him because she was angry over a Mediapart probe into rape and sexual assault claims against Luc Besson. In the 1990s, Maiwenn wed Besson, and the two of them had a daughter.
