The video of YouTuber and social media influencer Eugenia Cooney has gone viral after she was seen strutting in a Barbie-inspired outfit. She looked thin to the point of being sick as her bones and ribs were prominently noticed under her pale, white skin.

“Popular YouTuber and social media influencer Eugenia Cooney, who has over 2 million YouTube subscribers, has sparked concern with her latest video post displaying a worryingly thin figure. She has been battling severe anorexia after finding internet fame,” internet personality Oli London wrote as he shared her video.

The video was initially shared on Cooney’s Instagram page. She is seen wearing a vividly Pink cowboy outfit, complete with a fluffy, pink hat. Her midriff could be seen visible. The fact that her body had been reduced to “skin and bones” was clearly visible in the video.

Who is Eugenia Cooney?

Eugenia Sullivan Cooney was born on July 27, 1994, in Boston, Massachusetts. Her birth name was Colleen Cooney. Her first name was changed to Eugenia several months after her birth. She was a victim of bullying in school. She began attending an online school after her first year of high school.

Cooney pursued modeling for a brief time in New York. But it required her to remove her online presence and began feeling overcontrolled. As a result, Cooney decided to focus on her online career. In 2011 she began by livestreaming on broadcasting service YouNow. Soon she launched her YouTube channel that same year. In 2013, she uploaded a video titled “How to Ratchetly Twerk.” It went viral after being shared on WorldStarHipHop.

She amassed over 7.5 million views in just her first three videos. Some of her other video included topics like clothing hauls, life vlogs, cosplay outfits, and makeup tutorials. She has garnered over 2 million subscribers on YouTube.

In 2018, she began livestreaming on Twitch. Till last year, she had over 400,000 followers on the platform. She is known for her “extraordinarily long, dark hair, gothic lace dresses, and bold, multi-colored makeup looks” which is part of her emo style.

She starred in the music video for Niki DeMar’s song, Anthem for the Judged in 2018. Cooney was a nominee for YouTuber of the Year for the 12th annual Shorty Awards in 2020.

She suffers from an eating disorder, presumably anorexia nervosa. Over the years, many critics have argued youngsters are influenced by her her content to starve themselves. The YouTuber has become a popular figure in online “pro-ana” communities. Her videos and images are used as “thinspiration”.

Since 2015, viewers have shown concern around her weight loss. A petition was filed in 2016, on Change.org, titled “Temporarily Ban Eugenia Cooney off of YouTube.” It went viral at the time and received 18,000 signatures. However, it was later removed for “violating community guidelines.”

Cooney has denied having a problem and said that she did not intend to be a bad influence.
