Ghanshyam
Nayak was a veteran actor well known for portraying the role of Nattu Kaka in
the popular Hindi sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. He had been battling
cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, took his last breath at the age of 76. He
passed away at 5:30 PM on Sunday.

The veteran
was born in Mumbai in a small Gujarati village, Undhai on May 12, 1944. He
moved to Mumbai at a very young age in order to pursue a career in acting and lived
in Malad with his wife Nirmala and their three children.

He had been
an active part of the Hindi and Gujarati TV and film industry for over 55
years. His career did not pick up for the first 40 – 45 years and there was a
time when he earned 3 rupees for 24 hours of work.

He followed
in the footsteps of his grandfather and his father as an active theatre artist.

The actor’s
patience was rewarded when he bagged a role in the long running show ‘Taarak
Mehta Ka Oolta Chashmah’ as Natwarlal Prabhashankar Undhaiwala
aka ‘Nattu Kaka’.

The actors’ demise shook his fans and they expressed their sadness on Twitter.

A fan wrote, “RIP Nattu kaka….you thoroughly entertained us in serial with brilliant acting you made sure you light up every scene with comic brilliance…gutted…Om Shanti!!! #TMKOC”

Another fan thanked him for making their childhood special and wrote, “NATTU KAKAAA :’) gems which truly made my childhood special, hope your soul finds peace wherever you are #NattuKaka”

In his
career he worked in over 200 Hindi and Gujarati films. During this time, he
worked with several big names including Ashok Kumar, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor,
Kajol, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.

‘Nattu Kaka’
made cameos in many films including ‘Beta’, ‘Ladla’,
‘Krantivir’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Ghatak’, ‘China Gate’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’,
‘Lajja’, ‘Tere Naam’, ‘Khaki’ and ‘Chori Chori’.

Ghanshyam Nayak’s contribution to the television industry will never be forgotten.
