The shooter of Lady Gaga‘s dog walker was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Monday. James Howard Jackson had shot and wounded Ryan Fischer and stole the singer’s French bulldogs last year.

On Monday, the convicted thief took a plea deal in the case against him. The motive behind the incident was the value of the French bulldogs, authorities said, adding that he and his accomplices likely were not aware that the canines belong to the Grammy award-winning singer.

French bulldogs can run a value of thousands of dollars.

James Howard Jackson and his two accomplices participated in the violent robbery. They pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

On February 24, 2021, the three men drove around Hollywood, the city of West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley “looking for French bulldogs,” prosecutors earlier said. They found Lady Gaga’s dog walker with the three pets.

Jackson shot Fischer and abducted two of the dogs. A nearby doorbell camera recorded the incident. In the video, Fischer was heard calling for help, saying “Oh, my God! I’ve been shot!” and “I’m bleeding out from my chest!”

In a post on social media following the incident he called the attack a “very close call with death.”

The dogs who were kidnapped were named Koji and Gustav. They were returned several days later by Jennifer McBride after Lady Gaga offered a $500,000 reward promising no questions asked if she is reunited with her pets.

Jennifer McBride, who was also charged in the case, admitted the allegation of inflicting great bodily injury and to a prior strike, authorities said Monday according to Rolling Stone.

“The plea agreement holds Mr. Jackson accountable for perpetrating a coldhearted violent act and provides justice for our victim,” the office said in a statement.

The main accused James Howard Jackson had been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a robbery and assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

A third accomplice, Harold White, pleaded no contest Monday to a count of ex-convict in possession of a gun. White was in a relationship with McBride at the time of the incident. White will be sentenced next year.
