James Michael Tyler popularly known as Gunther from the NBC hit sitcom %u2018Friends%u2019 is an American actor, who played the role of Gunther from 1994 to 2004. The actor has a ten-year career with appearances in 148 episodes of Friends and is the show%u2019s most frequently appearing guest star.

During his college days, he was a member of a student theatre group and the experience later sparked his interest in acting. In 1988 he became a production assistant for Fat Man and Little Boy and an assistant film editor.

In 2009, Tyler officially opened the temporary Central Perk pop-up replica in London, in honour of Friends%u2019 15th anniversary. It was open for two weeks only where fans could apply for tickets to receive a free coffee. On Friends%u2019 20th anniversary in 2014, he made appearances at a central perk replica in Soho.

He appeared in the unaired pilot satire sitcom Nobody%u2019s watching, playing himself on the set of Central Park. In a recent interview, the actor has revealed that he suffering from stage four cancer. Tyler was last seen virtually on the HBO Max %u2018Friends: The Reunion%u2019 which premiered on May 27.
