Brat Loves Judy stars Da Brat and wife Jesseca ‘Judy’ Dupart are clearing the air on Brat’s recent comments on a potential Black sperm donor. The couple appeared on The Tamron Hall Show this week to discuss their pregnancy journey.

During the show, Hall asked Brat about her joke given in an inter with The Root, which has since been removed. The 49-year-old told the publication that the only option for a Black sperm donor presented wasn’t visually pleasing.

“That [dude] looked like Jiminy Cricket. I was like, ‘I’m sorry but that wasn’t gonna be my choice.’ … But I think we did a great job with picking. He’s handsome, he’s tall, and I think he’s going to look beautiful with my wife’s egg,” Harris-Dupart told The Root.

As the comment faced outrage alleging colorism, Brat pushed back, telling Hall that she and Dupart initially planned on having a Black sperm donor. “I didn’t think it would be offensive to anybody,” Harris-Dupart said about calling the man Jiminy Cricket.

While apologizing for her comments, Da Brat said it was a joke between him, his wife, and the doctor.

Since the episode broadcast, Dupart and Da Brat had received a lot of hate online from furious viewers, including someone wishing for them to miscarry.

Who is Jiminy Cricket?

Jiminy Cricket is a small cricket who appeared as the deuteragonist in Disney’s 1940 animated film Pinocchio. It acts as a conscience and a friend to the film’s titular character Pinocchio. Jiminy is clever, kind, brave, and caring.

Jiminy Cricket appeared along with Mickey Mouse and Tinker Bell as a Disney Mascot.
