Joelle Rich is a well-known lawyer who is currently dating Hollywood actor Johnny Depp,  Us Weekly has exclusively confirmed. She represented him in his UK libel lawsuit against The Sun. 

Rich was one of the defence attorneys who worked on Depp’s case against the UK newspaper after he sued the publication for defamation in 2018, but she was not a member of the legal team that represented Depp in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard earlier this year. However, she was present in the Virginia courtroom to show her “support” for the Oscar nominee.

Who is Joelle Rich? 

Joelle Rich, 37, completed her high school education at North London Collegiate School. She graduated with a Law degree from the University of Birmingham in 2006. She has also pursued legal courses from BPP Law School in London. 

She is currently working for Schillings Law Firm and specialises in fighting defamation lawsuits and ensuring the protection of privacy of companies, entrepreneurs and high-profile clients. 

Joelle is a recipient of the prestigious Silver award for ‘Future Leader Initiative of the Year’ at the Citywealth Future Leaders 2021 and was named a finalist in Spear’s Wealth Management Awards 2021 for ‘Future Leader in Private Client Services.’

Rich was married when she started dating Depp, but she is now divorcing him. She and her ex-husband have two children.

The Secret Window actor filed two distinct civil suits against Heard after their marriage ended in 2017. The Kentucky native first filed a lawsuit against The Sun in June 2018 after the news organization alluded to him as a “wife beater” in an article about his role in the Fantastic Beasts film series. The article quoted allegations made by Heard who previously highlighted several cases of abuse prior to their divorce. 

The court denied Depp’s plea for an appeal in the case in March 2021. Joelle  Rich told Deadline that she “seriously questioned” the decision of the British judge, adding that her client was looking forward to “presenting the complete, irrefutable evidence of the truth in the U.S. libel case against Ms. Heard, where she will have to provide full disclosure.”
