Shakara Johnson is a popular TikTok influencer, Instagrammer, actress, and
rapper. Popularly known as JT, the American rapper has collaborated with Nicki Minaj for the track Super Freaky Girl (Queen Mix), which was released on September 9, 2022. The track also features pop stars including Bia, Katie Got Bandz, Akbar V, and Malibu Mitch.

JT is also renowned for rapping in a
variety of styles. She is a part of the hip-hop duo City Girls, along with Yung Miami.  The upcoming American icon has over 5 million followers on
Instagram and Tik Tok and is quite popular for her dancing videos. 

 Who is JT? 

The
American rapper was born in Miami, Florida on December 3, 1992. Jatavia Shakara
Johnson was raised in the United States, although information about her parents
and siblings is not known. However, it is known that she is the last of sixteen
children in a large family. Her parents were separated soon after she was born.
In an interview with Hot New Hip-Pop in 2019, JT said “my mother was an
addict” and that “drugs ruined my childhood”.

She
grew up in Opa-Locka and Liberty City and is friends with Caresha Brownlee
(Yung Miami), with whom she later formed her rap group- City Girls. While JT
has always been the extroverted one, Yung is of more poised nature, so the duo
decided to form a rap group, believing they would complement each other well.

In
2017, their career started kicking off as the City Girls signed with the music
label Quality Control.

 JT’s
music career

City
Girls first released their single F**k That N**ga in 2017. Later in the year,
they released a few songs with artists like Khia and Trina. However, JT was
arrested the following year under the charges of identity theft and cybercrime.
Despite spending two years in prison, she was able to maintain her fan base,
thanks to Jimmy Cook’s rapper Drake, who featured Yung Miami in his In My
Feelings music video. 

Girl
Code, their debut studio album, was released in November 2018. Cardi B, Lil
Baby, and Jacquees were among the rappers featured on the album.

The
duo’s second studio album, City on Lock, was released in June 2020. However,
the entire album was leaked online before its scheduled release date. As a
result, they were forced to release the album on the same day. The album was
quite successful, reaching number 29 on the US charts. Throat Baby [Remix],
Twerkulator, and Scared are the duo’s three singles released so far in 2021.
Act Up is their most streamed song to date, with over 221 million Spotify
streams. The song has also been certified three times platinum by the RIAA.
