Filmmaker James Gunn met Kevin Bacon at a New York City showing when he was 20 years old. The ambitious director approached the movie star with a serious message after being shocked.

“I went up to him and said, ‘Mr. Kevin Bacon, you’re my favorite actor, along with Mr. Peter Falk,’” Gunn recalls.

Sadly, Falk went away before he had the opportunity to collaborate with Gunn, but a few decades later, Bacon is prominently featured in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.  Additionally, the actor, who previously starred in director James Gunn’s 2010 film “Super,” is portraying himself, or rather, a Christmas-loving Kevin Bacon who is kidnapped by Mantis (Pom Klementieff) and Drax (Dave Bautista) as a gift for super-fan, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt).

Who is Kevin Bacon?

Kevin Norwood Bacon is an American actor. He was born on July 8, 1958, in Philadelphia.

His father, Edmund Bacon, was an urban designer who worked for many years as the executive director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and wrote the influential book Design of Cities. His mother, Ruth Hilda, was a teacher at an elementary school and a liberal activist.

Bacon completed both his middle and high school education at Julia R. Masterman High School. Bacon received a full scholarship to the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts at Bucknell University in 1975 when he was 16 years old. He studied theatre there for five weeks under the tutelage of Glory Van Scott. The encounter strengthened Bacon’s love of the arts.

Since September 4, 1988, Bacon has been married to actor Kyra Sedgwick, whom he met while working on the PBS adaptation of Lanford Wilson’s play Lemon Sky. He stated: “The time I was hitting what I considered to be bottom was also the time I met my wife, our kids were born, good things were happening. And I was able to keep supporting myself; that always gave me strength.”

The couple has worked together in films like Pyrates, Murder in the First, The Woodsman, and Loverboy, Bacon, and Sedgwick. Their two children are Sosie Ruth (born in 1989) and Travis Sedgwick (b. 1992). They live in Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

In 2005, Bacon admitted to The Times that he did not “believe in God” and had advocated for the separation of church and state in the past. Additionally, he has asserted that he is not anti-religion.

Following Barack Obama’s election victory in 2008, will.i.am’s music video It’s a New Day featured Bacon and Sedgwick.

The infamous conman Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme cost the couple some of their savings.

Bacon and Sedgwick discovered that they are ninth cousins once removed in 2011 through their appearance on the PBS television programme Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates. They also made an appearance in a film advocating the “Bill of Reproductive Rights,” which includes the freedom of choice and access to birth contraception for women.

A few of his movies are the legal drama A Few Good Men, the historical docudrama Apollo 13, the controversial historical conspiracy legal thriller JFK, the musical drama Footloose, and the mystery drama Mystic River. In addition to playing the title character in Balto, Bacon has also portrayed more sinister characters in Sleepers and The Woodsman, including a tormented former child abuser. He is also well-known for the blockbuster comedies Crazy, Stupid, Love, Tremors, Diner, and National Lampoon’s Animal House.

His other well-known movies include X-Men: First Class, Black Mass, Patriots Day, The River Wild, Wild Things, Stir of Echoes, Hollow Man, and Frost/Nixon. He has been in the Fox drama series The Following, and he is also quite active in the television industry. Bacon earned a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for the HBO original movie Taking Chance. More recently, Bacon was the series lead and played the show’s titular role on Amazon Prime, for which he received a Golden Globe nomination.

He was ranked as one of the top actors who were never nominated for an Academy Award by The Guardian. Bacon was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003 for his services to the film industry.

Bacon has come to symbolise the idea of human connectivity because to the video game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. He founded SixDegrees.org, a nonprofit organisation, in 2007. He has appeared in multiple commercials for British mobile network operator EE as a brand ambassador.
