Americans were left shocked on Saturday night, September 3, 2022, when Twitter chatter suggested that there has been a shooting at a concert of Lil Baby at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. While the claims are still not verified, many Twitter users expressed their worry on a possible shooting at the concert.

This would not be the first time Lil Baby has witnessed a shooting incident in one of his concerts. One of his concerts in Birmingham, Alabama, ended in one person picking up critical injuries as result of a gunshot near the stage at the Bill Harris Arena. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital later.

Who is Lil Baby?

Dominique Armani Jones, popularly known as Lil Baby, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Baby rose to mainstream fame in 2017 when he released his mixtape ‘Perfect Timing,’ featuring Young Thug, Lil Yachty, and others, and became one of the most prominent figures in the trap music scene to date.

The singer was born on December 3, 1994, in the Oakland City neighbourhood of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. He had a difficult childhood as his father left him and the rest of his family when he was only two years old. It was his mother who raised Jones, along with his two sisters.

He enrolled at the Booker T Washington High School, however, dropped out when he was in the ninth grade. He began dealing drugs after that.

Lil Baby was charged with possession with the intent to sell and several other charges in 2012. He was also charged with possession of marijuana the next year. The rapper was nabbed for a third time in 2014, and was again charged with possession before being handed a two-year prison sentence.

After he served the sentence, he was suggested by Kevin “Coach K” Lee, who was also the founder of Quality Control Records, a city-based studio, to become a rapper. Baby frequented at the studio when he was drug dealer but decided to become a rapper in 2015.

Young Thug and Gunna, two other rappers helped him to perfect his trade and mentored him in his new path. He released his first studio album three years later, named Harder Than Ever, on October 5, 2018.

His second studio album, named My turn, peaked at number one in the Billboard 200 and is certified three times platinum by RIAA. His single “The Bigger Picture” released in June 2020, peaked at number three on the Hot 100, becoming the highest-charting song as a lead artist of his career.

In February 2020, he released his album “My Turn” which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. My Turn produced 12 songs that appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, giving Lil Baby a career total of 47 songs on the chart, putting him at a tie with Prince and Paul McCartney.  

After that, Lil Baby released the collaborative album “The Voices of the Heroes” with Lil Durk on June 4, 2021, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Lil Baby has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and seven BET Awards throughout his career. He was also crowned as the biggest all-genre “Artist of the Year” at the Apple Music Awards 2020.
