Lil Duval, who was born Roland Powell, is an American stand-up comedian, actor, rapper and singer.

The 45-year-old was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He adopted the stage name “Lil Duval” to pay homage to his birthplace, Duval County, Florida.

After graduating from First Coast High School, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia.

Lil Duval released his first solo single and music video on April 1, 2014, entitled “Wat Dat Mouf Do?” featuring Trae tha Truth. In 2005, he was a finalist on BET’s comedy competition series Coming to the Stage.

In 2018, he released “Smile Bitch (Living My Best Life)” featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy, and the single peaked at number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Lil Duval is a series regular to the MTV2 shows Guy Code and Hip Hop Squares. From 2013 to 2014 he hosted the video show Ain’t That America on MTV2.

On July 27, 2022, Lil Duval was airlifted to a hospital after a car allegedly struck him while he was riding around on his four-wheeler in the Bahamas

The comic shared on Instagram a video that showed him being airlifted to a local hospital. He wrote that he suffered a broken leg.

“Somebody hit me in they car while i was on my 4 wheeler,” he wrote. “Now my leg broke and i gotta get flown over to nassau and have surgery.”

Lil Duval’s friends and co-workers wished him a speedy recovery in the comment section of the post. Kevin Hart, 2 Chainz, Bun B, Angela Simmons, Jamie Foxx, Michael Blackson and T.I., were among the stars who reacted to his injury.

“Maaaaaan I’m gon pray that you get well first,” T.I. wrote. “Then find it in yo heart to sitcho old ass down somewhere & rest big bro…. Amen.”

His accident came a month after the comedian faced some backlash over comments he made in regards to the show P-Valley, which some people deemed homophobic.

“Yea p valley lost me,” Lil Duval tweeted in June. “They need a super gay advisory on movies like they got for everything else. Cuz That’s a lot to see if u not use to it.” In the tweet, he was referring to a sex scene between characters Lil Murda and Big Teak.

The episode’s writer, Patrik Ian-Polk, responded to Duval, and urged him to “step away from Chucalissa.”

“This show is not for you,” he tweeted at Duval. “Go watch something else. Cuz the gay ain’t goin’ nowhere.”
