Amidst the ongoing controversy
regarding Balenciaga’s new campaign, designer Lotta Volvoka’s private Instagram
pictures got revealed, sparking outrage among netizens.

American martial artist Jake
Sheilds revealed on Twitter that Lotta Volvoka is a top designer who frequently
collaborates with  Balenciaga. The disturbing campaign for the brand’s
Spring/Summer 2023 collection was also the brainchild of Volvoka.

Some of the private Instagram pictures of Volvoka featured children,
one in a pink swimsuit lying and waving toward the camera, another young
boy wearing heels, and another child holding a skull. It also had a picture of
a bedroom that appeared to be covered in bloodstains, and of a teddy bear
wrapped in a red ribbon. The picture of a girl being held
by tape with her mouth and eyes covered also sparked outrage amongst Twitter users. 

The ad campaign that was previously criticised featured children holding
teddy bears in bondages. The pictures also had a poorly hidden legal document showcasing
a Supreme Court order on a child pornography case.

Who is Lotta Volvoka?

Lotta Volvoka is a fashion designer
born and raised in Novosibirsk, Russia. She was raised by a naval capital
father who would often bring cassettes and clothes for her from around the
globe. From a young age, she developed an interest in fashion and design.

At the age of 17, she moved to
London to study at Central Saint Martins, a public art school in London.
Volvoka specialized in arts and design.

Eventually, she found rising success
in London’s club scene and started her own label named Lotta Skeletrix. She
moved to Paris in 2007 and went on to collaborate with Russian fashion designer
Gosha Rubchinskiy.

Volvoka met Demna Gvasalia, a
Georgian designer who co-founded the luxury fashion brand Vetements and is the
current creative director of Balenciaga. He appointed Volvoka as part of the creative
vision team of Vetements. She has also worked with the American fashion house Sies
Marjan.

Since 2014, she has been one of the
main stylists of Balenciaga, working with celebrities like Justin Beiber and
Kanye West.
