Tønnesen’s recent portrayal of Krester in the Netflix period horror drama 1899 was well appraised. A young, curious yet protective Danish man, who travels to America with sisters Ada and Tove, father Anker, and mother Iben., Krester comes from an underprivileged, conservative background. He is extremely timid and falls submissive to his parents and other wealthy members who have boarded the ship. Krester bears a scar on his face, and he is extremely ashamed of it.

1899 premiered on Netflix on November 17, 2022 and has received critical acclaim for its multicultural blend along with its themes.
