Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton, stars of the hit TV series One Tree Hill, have accused the show’s creator, Mark Schwahn, of forcing them to pose for the male magazine Maxim. The two actors made the claims on the podcast Drama Queens.
Bush said on the podcast that she had initially refused to be a part of the Maxim photoshoot since her character, Brooke Davis, was supposed to be 16 years old.
Her comments were, “I was like, ‘Look, if the girls want to do it, that’s great. I don’t. I have gone to battle trying to make Brooke less of this thing that you guys tried to force me into. I don’t want to do it'”.
Hilarie Burton, who played the character Peyton Sawyer, also said that Schwahn had told her to not give up on the offer since Maxim was the only magazine that wanted them on its cover.
Who is Mark Schwahn?
Mark Schwahn is a former producer, director, and screenwriter. He was born on July 5, 1966. He studied at the University of Maryland and began his career in 1997, when he wrote and directed an independent film called 35 Miles from Normal.
In 2000, Schwahn made another movie called Whatever It Takes, but switched to writing and producing instead of directing. The biggest success of his career was One Tree Hill, which premiered in 2003 and ran for a total of nine seasons. Schwahn was the series’ creator, and even wrote, directed, and was the executive producer of some of the episodes.
In 2004 and 2005, he wrote the screenplays for the films The Perfect Score and Coach Carter. Schwahn was also the creator of the series The Royals, which ran from 2015 to 2018.
In 2017, Schwahn was accused by Audrey Wauchope, a TV writer, of sexual harassment. Soon a number of women from the casts of One Tree Hill and The Royals came out with similar accusations against Schwahn. As a result of the fallout, he was fired from The Royals and his career was essentially over.
