Hollywood actor Megan Fox got engaged to rapper beau Machine Gun Kelly on Wednesday. MGK put up a video of the ring on the actor’s finger on Instagram, taking the internet by a storm.

Let us take a look at Megan Fox, her career and legacy so far.

Fox has starred in a number of film series, including the Transformers franchise, as well as periodicals such as Maxim, Rolling Stone, and For Him Magazine. She has won a number of awards, including two Scream Awards and four Teen Choice Awards.

Mikaela Banes, the lead female part in the 2007 live-action picture Transformers, based on the toy and cartoon franchise of the same name, was won by Fox. Shia LaBeouf’s character, Sam Witwicky, had Fox as his love interest. Fox was nominated for three Teen Choice Awards and received an MTV Movie Award nomination for “Breakthrough Performance.

After the first two films, Fox was supposed to star in the third, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, but she was cut due to her comments comparing working for director Michael Bay to working for Hitler. In June 2009, Bay claimed that Fox was sacked on the direction of executive producer Steven Spielberg, a charge denied by Spielberg.

In reaction to the letter saying that Fox’s on-set behaviour is unflattering and contradicts her public persona, Bay responded that while he does not condone the letter or Fox’s “outlandish quotes,” “her crazy quips are part of her crazy charm,” and the two still get along.  A Transformers production assistant also testified that he never witnessed Fox act inappropriately on set.  Fox stated that the charges made in the letter were false and that she had dealt with the persons involved personally.

Fox portrayed the title character in Jennifer’s Body, penned by Academy Award–winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, in 2009, her first main role since the Transformers series. Upon its first release, the picture received mixed to average reviews, with Fox’s performance receiving praise. The picture, however, developed a cult following over time and was appraised as a “lost feminist masterpiece” by critics.

The Los Angeles Times’ Chris Lee termed Fox a “sex symbol of the highest kind” and “the first bona fide sex symbol of the twenty-first century.” “Transformers propelled Fox into the mainstream, instantly turning her into a household brand and international sex symbol,” MTV’s Craig Flaster said. She has been on numerous magazine covers and “hottest” and “most beautiful woman” lists over the years, including Maxim’s Hot 100 lists and FHM readers’ choice of her as the “Sexiest Woman in the World” in 2008. She was voted one of People’s Most Beautiful at Every Age in 2012 and 2017.

All women in Hollywood are known and promoted as sex symbols, according to Fox, but that’s fine if the woman knows how to make the most of it. She established a persona for public appearance because she refused to give up her genuine self to the world. Scholars Wheeler Winston Dixon and Gwendolyn Audrey Foster argued that every woman in Hollywood is promoted as a sex symbol, claiming that Fox’s “fame” is built on “an utterly artificial construct designed for transmission in the Internet age, a 21st-century media personality in every sense of the term.”

Fox, who admitted to being shy and nervous, struggled to adjust to the increased media attention. It also made her a potential role model, which led to her being typecast later on. She denied being a formal role model, but claimed that she could make young girls feel “strong and intelligent, outspoken, and fight for what they think is right,” and that she was a new role model for females that perhaps America didn’t like. She saw being typecast as appealing since it gave her the chance to surprise people when she gave a solid performance in a film, although she said she prefers to play less sexualized characters.

After playing in the less economically successful films Jonah Hex and Passion Play, she became significantly less visible in the media by 2010. According to Fox, in the same year, “My biggest regret is that I’ve assisted the media in making me into a cartoon character. I don’t regret what has happened to me, but I regret the way I have dealt with it.”
