Haitian singer Mikaben passed away last week after a sudden collapse on the stage during his performance in Paris. He was performing alongside Haitian band Carimi. His family has shared their experience and honoured his legacy in a statement shared by Fox News Digital.

“The Benjamin family would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of love and support you have shown us regarding the sudden departure of our beloved Mikaben. We appreciate your understanding in allowing the family to grieve privately,” the statement read.

Who is Mikaben?

Michael Benjamin was born on 27 June 1981 to famous singer Lionel Benjamin and Roselin Benjamin.

Mikaben was a well known singer, writer and producer in the local Haitian music scene. He also featured in several tracks by Haitian band Carimi, including songs like Baby I Missed You and Fanm sa Move.

Mikaben released albums like Voyage in 2000, Mika in 2004, Atis Lokal Pap Janm Lague in 2010 and Mkbn in 2018. He was also the lead vocalist of Krezi Mizik, a Haitian Konpa band.

Some of Mikaben’s well known tracks are Fe Lapli, Fanm Sa n Move, Ti pam Nan, Knabe M’, Marry me, ayibobo, Ou pat, Nkpy, Pauki se li, upside down, se Sistem nan ki blo, Bye Bye Baby, and Se Sistem nan ki blo.

Mikaben passed away after he unexpectedly collapsed on stage while performing alongside popular band Carimi. The reason for his death has not been revealed yet.

Mikaben’s wife Vanessa is currently pregnant with their third child. She took to twitter to share her experience post her husband’s death.

“I’m in no condition to talk. I lost my other half and have no words,” she wrote.

Popular Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean honoured Mikaben in his twitter post. “Rest In Peace King @mikaben509 Gone too soon #haiti.” his caption reads.
