Singers Avril Lavigne and Mod Sun got engaged in Paris on March 27, the couple announced on Instagram on Thursday.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Lavigne said Mod proposed to her with a custom-designed, heart-shaped ring.
“It was the most perfect, romantic proposal I could ever ask for. We were in Paris on a boat in the Seine River. We had a violin player, champagne and roses. It felt like time stood still, and it was just the two of us in the moment,” she told the outlet.
“He knew from the very beginning I wanted a heart shaped diamond because on the day we met, we had matching heart shaped paved rings on. We’ve worn them every day since, so its only fitting to have a heart-shaped engagement ring. I love it so much,” she added.

Who is Mod Sun?
Derek Ryan Smith, popularly known as Mod Sun, is an American singer. Born on March 10, 1987, in Minnesota, he has released a total of 4 solo studio albums, three EPs, six mixtapes, and 31 singles as of 2022.
According to Celebheights.com, the 35-year-old singer is 5 feet and 5 inches tall. He reportedly has a net worth of around $3 million.
He was previously in a relationship with Tana Mongeau. They started dating in 2020 and called it quits by the end of the year.
Lavigne and Mod Sun sparked dating rumours in February 2021. In September of the same year, the couple made their red carpet debut as a couple at the MTV Video Music Awards.
On the occasion of her birthday in September, Mod shared an Instagram post, calling the 37-year-old singer “the love of my life.”
