In the popular television series Doctor Who, David Tennant took over for Christopher Eccleston as the charming Time Lord’s 10th incarnation from 2005 until 2010.

Early in the 1980s, Peter Davison played the Fifth Doctor. In addition to playing the Doctor, David and Peter are also closely related because David is the husband of Peter’s daughter, Georgia Tennant (nee Moffet).

Who is Peter Davison?

Peter Malcolm Gordon Moffett, better known by his stage name Peter Davison, is an English actor with a long list of credits in sitcoms and television dramas. He is best known for playing the Fifth Doctor in the iconic BBC show Doctor Who. He was born on April 13, 1951, to Claude and Sheila Moffett in Streatham, London.

He made his acting debut on television in 1975, and in 1978, the BBC’s televised adaptation of James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small stories made him renowned as Tristan Farnon.

The comedy Holding the Fort (1980–1982) and Sink or Swim (1980–1982), the fifth Doctor in Doctor Who (1981–1984), Dr. Stephen Daker in A Very Peculiar Practice (1986–1988), and Albert Campion in Campion were among Davison’s later leading roles (1989–1990). He also portrayed Henry Sharpe in Law & Order: UK, “Dangerous” Davies in The Last Detective, and David Braithwaite in At Home with the Braithwaites (2000–2003).

Davison grew up with three sisters – Shirley, Pamela, and Barbara. He went to Granton Primary School while residing in Streatham. After that, the family relocated to Surrey’s Knaphill. Davison was a part of the Byfleet Players, an amateur theatre group at the time.

He earned an O-level in the English Language at Winston Churchill School, St. John’s, in Woking, Surrey, before going on to work as an actor. He then held a number of odd occupations, including time as a morgue attendant and a Hoffman Press operator. Early plans for work at a building society or his father’s dream of attending a teacher-training institution were abandoned.

Davison has been married thrice. He divorced his first wife, Diane J. Russell in 1975.

He married Sandra Dickinson, an American-British actress, in 1978. In 1994, the couple got a divorce. Georgia Tennant, an actor, is Davison’s child from his second marriage. Georgia married actor David Tennant, who portrayed the Tenth Doctor, in December 2011.

In 2003, Davison married actor and author Elizabeth Morton, who would become his third wife. Louis (born in 1999) and Joel (born 2001), the couple’s two sons, live with them in their Twickenham home.
