Robert Glasper, American pianist, record producer, songwriter, and musical arranger, beat Chris Brown to win the the Best R&B Album at Grammy Awards 2023. The latter immediately questioned “Who is Robert Glasper” on his Instagram story.
“I love Chris brown but honestly for him not to know who Robert Glasper is and be a sore loser over him winning is trash. Robert’s catalogue is too long for the disrespect,” a Twitter user said.

Who is Robert Glasper?
Robert Glasper was born on April 6, 1978, in Houston, Texas. He is a jazz pianist with a knack for mellow harmonically complex compositions that also reveal a subtle hip-hop influence.

Since his mid-2000s debut as a leader, the Houston native regularly topped Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart with his highly collaborative recordings for the label, such as the Grammy-winning Black Radio in 2011, Black Radio 2 in 2013, and ArtScience in 2016. To date, Glasper has won four Grammy Awards and received nine nominations across eight categories.
He has toured extensively, gaining a large and loyal fan following worldwide. He has also been an Artist in Residence at some of the most reputed festivals and institutions globally, including the London Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, The Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, and the Blue Note Jazz Club.

Glasper’s initial musical influence was his mother, Kim Yvette Glasper, who sang jazz and blues professionally. She took him with her to club dates rather than leave her son with babysitters. He attended Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas, and the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. In the tenth standard, he performed with the jazz band at Texas Southern University.
In 1997, Glasper went on to attend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. His playing career was launched in earnest whilst still studying at The New School. He released his first album, Mood, in 2002 with Fresh Sound New Talent.
