Guerdy Abraira, a Real Housewives of Miami star, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 45-year-old event designer announced her diagnosis on Instagram on Wednesday, saying she found out in March and will undergo surgery and treatment.
“In March, I found out some news about my health. I was in St. Barts having the time of my life when my doctor called me with results following a regular mammogram checkup.
I have breast cancer.
It took me a while to process it all and this is why I took a break from social media last month as many noticed. Many of you reached out to check on me and I am thankful for your caring gestures.
For now I am preparing for my upcoming surgery and then will come my treatment plan. This process is definitely intense and what I ask of you is empowerment not pity. I will “guerdyfy” this cancer as I guerdyfy everything else in my life. I am lucky that this breast cancer was discovered at an early stage – it is still scary of course, but I have love and support from those around me and that alone is the fuel that I need.
For those who do not get health checks regularly, I urge you to. Your life depends on it,” she wrote on Instagram.

In this tough time, Abraira has the support of her husband Russell Abraira, with whom she’s been wIth since high school.
Who is Russell Abraira?
Russell Abraira is a firefighter in Miami.
He is married to Real Housewives of Miami star Guerdy Abraira. Guerdy’s Bravo bio states that she has been married to Russell Abraira, her high school sweetheart. The two got married in 2003.
The couple reportedly originally connected their final year of high school, according to The Knot. Guerdy and Russell’s relationship did not begin as love at first sight.

She said, “I thought Russell was cute, but at first I didn’t think he was my type…boy, was I wrong.”
Russell got down on one knee and proposed to the ‘RHOM’ star on a nighttime stroll on a beach.
The pair married a few years later at the old Spanish monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux near North Miami Beach. Guerdy and Russell had planned to marry in the pictresque monastery since they first met.
The couple have 2 sons, Liam and Miles.
