Samantha Ruth Prabhu has now disclosed that she has myositis, an inflammatory disease, amid numerous reports of her health concerns. She explained that she had just recently received a diagnosis for the ailment, and she had hoped to let her fans know once it had entered remission.

Who is Samantha Ruth Prabhu?

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is an Indian actor working primarily in Tamil and Telugu cinema. 

Samantha was born on April 28, 1987, in Alappuzha, Kerala, to a Telugu father, Joseph Prabhu, and a Malayali mother, Ninette Prabhu. She was the youngest of three siblings. Samantha has two older brothers — Jonathan and David. 

Samantha Ruth Prabhu was raised in Pallavaram, Chennai. Despite her mixed heritage, Prabhu identifies as Tamilian. 

Samantha attended Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School before completing a degree in commerce at Stella Maris College in Chennai. She got into modelling towards the end of her college degree.

Samantha worked part-time on modelling gigs while studying commerce. She made her acting debut in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s highly acclaimed Telugu romance film, Ye Maaya Chesave (2010), for which she received a Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and a Nandi Award.

Samantha went on to become only the second actress in history to win both the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu in the same year, for her roles in the films Neethaane En Ponvasantham (2012) and Eega (2013).

She has primarily chosen to play the leading female role in hero-centric Telugu and Tamil films since then, earning box office success with films such as Dookudu (2011), the family dramas Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2012) and Attarintiki Daredi (2013), and AR Murugadoss’ Tamil action film, Kaththi (2014).

Samantha’s performance in the movie A Aa (2016) received favourable reviews and brought her her fourth Filmfare Award, and her subsequent flicks Theri (2016), 24 (2016), Mersal (2017), Rangasthalam (2018), and Mahanati (2018) all did well financially. She received more favourable reviews for her performances in the 2019 films Super Deluxe, Majili, Oh! Baby, as well as her sole 2020 release, Jaanu. Prabhu  is the founder of Saaki World and Pratyusha Support.

She began dating actor Naga Chaitanya in 2010 after appearing in the film Ye Maaya Chesave. On January 29, 2017, the couple got engaged in Hyderabad. On October 6, 2017, she married according to traditional Hindu ceremonies in Goa, and then according to Christian customs on October 7, 2017.

On July 31, 2021, she removed the surname “Akkineni” from her social media pages, sparking rumours about her divorce from Naga Chaitanya. Later, on October 2, 2021, they announced their separation and got divorce.
