Tems’ white gown at the Oscars was trolled with people saying that those sitting behind her can’t see what was going on on the stage.

She was attending the 95th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 12.

Who is Tems? 

She was born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1995 and grew up in a family of musicians. Tems first gained attention with her debut single Mr Rebel in 2018 and has since released several popular tracks including These Days, Damages, and Crazy Tings.

There is not much information available about Tems’ parents. However, it is known that her mother was a gospel singer and her father was a drummer. Tems has mentioned in interviews that her parents were very supportive of her music career and that they encouraged her to pursue her passion for music from a young age.

In an interview with NativeMag, Tems described her mother as her biggest inspiration, saying, “My mum is my greatest inspiration. She’s a gospel singer, and I grew up listening to her sing all kinds of music. I also have siblings who are musically inclined, and we all grew up playing different instruments, so music has always been a big part of my life.”

She has collaborated with a number of artists including WizKid, Khalid, and Davido, and has been nominated for several awards including the Headies Award for Best Vocal Performance (Female) and the BET Awards Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act.

Tems attended Dowen College in Lagos for her secondary education and later studied economics at the University of Lagos. During her time in university, she began writing and recording music and eventually decided to pursue music as a career.

Tems’ music is a blend of R&B, soul, and Afrobeat, and she cites artists such as Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, and Asa as influences. Her unique sound has earned her a dedicated following, and she has become one of the most exciting young artists in Nigeria’s thriving music scene.
