Mark Sinclair, professionally known as Vin Diesel is an American actor and producer. He is best known for playing Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious franchise. He voices the character of baby Groot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will reprise the role in the American animated series, I am Groot. The series will premiere with five shorts on Disney+ on August 10, 2022, as a part of Phase Four of the MCU.

Vin Diesel was born on July 18, 1967, in Alameda County, California. He made his stage debut at the age of seven when he appeared in the children’s day play Dinosaur Door, written by Barbara Garson. At the age of 17, he became a bouncer at a New York nightclub Tunnel. It was at this time that he changed his name to Vin Diesel. 

He began auditioning for roles in the early 1990s and struggled at the start of his career. He decided to make his own low-budget movies. In 1995, he wrote, directed, produced and starred in the short film Multi-Facial.

He made his first feature-length film, Strays, in 1997. Steven Spielberg cast him for a small role in his 1998 war epic, Saving Private Ryan. Vin Diesel voiced the titular character in The Iron Giant in 1999, gaining a reputation as an action star. Diesel also portrays the character of Groot in the MCU superhero films, has appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in 2017, Avengers: Infinity War in 2018 and Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022.

He also portrayed Groot in the animated film Ralph Breaks the Internet in 2018. He is the founder of the production company One Race Films. He also founded the record label Racetrack Records and video game developer Tigon Studios. He provides his voice and motion capture for all of Tigon’s releases.
