Vince McMahon announced his retirement on July 22, 2022, as the CEO and chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment. He “voluntarily stepped down” from his WWE roles in June, 2022, as the board of directors looks into allegations of misconduct against the 76-year-old, the company said, according to Variety.

Who is Vince McMahon?

Vincent Kennedy McMahon is an American professional wrestling executive and media proprietor. He is also the founder of Alpha Entertainment, a private enterprise that “explores new ventures in the sports and entertainment arenas,” according to the firm’s social media accounts.

Early life

Vincent McMahon was born on August 24, 1945, in Pinehurst, North Carolina, to Victoria and Vincent James McMahon.

McMahon’s father left him as an infant, so he spent most of his childhood growing up with his mother and his stepfathers. Recalling how one of his stepfathers, Leo Lupton, used to physically abuse his mother, McMahon told Playboy in 2001: “It is unfortunate that he died before I could kill him. I would have enjoyed that.”

McMahon, who was dyslexic during his younger years, attended Waynesboro’s Fishburne Military School in Virginia and graduated in 1964.

Career

McMahon began his career by commentating for his father Vincent J. McMahon’s World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) in the 70s.

As the popularity of professional wrestling grew, McMahon took up several opportunities in its sporting events. Prior to the 90s, he was merely an announcer, but later on, he entertained the audience with his commentary by creating the gimmick of Mr. McMahon, a braggy, suit-wearing man popular for his aggressive catchphrase “You’re fired!”

In 2014, he launched the WWE Network, a subscription-based video streaming service.
