Tom Hanks was conspicuously absent from this morning’s Asteroid City photocall in Cannes, having resolved a red carpet incident with a staffer after the film’s premiere last night.
One of the biggest celebrities in the world, Tom Hanks, was captured with his wife Rita Wilson pointing towards Vincent Chapalain during the Wes Anderson movie premiere last night.
Wilson was keen to clear up the issue yesterday night, explaining that she and Hanks just were unable to hear what the man was saying.

Who is Vincent Chapalain?
Vincent Chapalain is a red carpet manager who has worked at the Cannes Film Festival for ten years.
A photo of Vincent Chapalain with Forrest Gump star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, visibly arguing over something started making the rounds on the internet at Cannes 2023.
‘Nothing happened at all, the photo is totally misleading,’ Chapalain said on Wednesday morning, adding that the pair asked him whether they should go back to the beginning of the red carpet with the other celebs.

Despite the innocuous nature of the incident, Hanks was noticeably absent from today’s well-attended photocall, when co-stars Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, and others lapped up applause.
The film, in which Hanks appears as a supporting actor as Schwartzman’s character’s father-in-law, is nominated for a Palm D’Or.

While the red carpet conversation was not as tense as it appeared, Hanks has been known to have a temper in the past. Last June, Hanks was seen yelling at photographers to ‘back the f*** off!’ following a tense encounter in Manhattan, as a paparazzi ran into Wilson in a media scrum.
