Controversial
statements during a stand-up comedy show in Washington DC, have landed Vir Das
in trouble once again. A viral video of his recital of a poem, ‘Two
Indias’ has sparked outrage and the comedian is being called
anti-national.
“I come from an India where women are worshiped during the day and raped in the night. I come from India where you are AQ1 9000 yet we lie on our roofs and count the stars at night. I come from India where we take pride in being vegetarians and yet run over the farmers who grow our vegetables”, the comedian said in his poem.

Vir Das is no
stranger to controversy, during an earlier l stand-up act in Delhi, he was
stopped in the middle of the show for commenting on Abdul Kalam. A member
of the audience had also lodged a complaint with the police.
Once again, with his
poem ‘Two Indias’, Vir Das is caught in the cross-hairs. However, he has issued
a clarification on this matter.
The popular
comedian and actor has a fan following all over the world. In 2017, he made his
Bollywood debut with the film ‘Namaste London’. He has featured in films like
‘Go Goa Gone’, ‘Badmaash Company’, ‘Revolver Rani’ and ‘Daily
Belly’.

The 42-year-old
married Shivani Mathur in 2014 in a very private ceremony in Sri Lanka.
Vir Das is the first Indian to be signed on to the Netflix comedy special,
‘Abroad Understanding’.

Vir Das completed
his schooling from the Indian Language School before graduating in economics
and theatre. As a child, Vir Das used to watch Bill Cosby, and developed
an interest in stand-up comedy. He began his career as a stand-up comedian in
the US and has performed in India before entering films. He is a musician too,
and is associated with band called Alien Chutney.
