Zain Javadd Malik aka Zayn Malik has parted ways with Gigi Hadid after an alleged spat with her mother Yolanda Hadid. The singer-songwriter was born on January 12, 1993, in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, to a Pakistani Muslim father, Yaser Malik, and a British mother, Trisha Malik, of English and Irish origin.

Malik grew up in a working-class family and neighbourhood in East Bowling, Bradford. In Bradford, he went to Lower Fields Primary School and Tong High School (now Tong Leadership Academy). Furthermore, he  participated in school productions and took acting classes as a teenager. While he  grew up listening to R&B, hip hop, and reggae albums on his father’s turntable, he wrote rap songs and sang on stage for the first time when singer-songwriter Jay Sean visited his school.

In March 2015, Malik left the group and signed a solo recording contract with RCA Records.

With his debut studio album, Mind of Mine (2016), and its lead single, “Pillowtalk,” Malik became the first British male artist to debut at number one in both the UK and the US . “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever,” in collaboration with Taylor Swift, and “Dusk Till Dawn,” in collaboration with Sia, both charted internationally. Icarus Falls, Malik’s second studio album, was released in 2018. Nobody Is Listening, his third album, was released in January 2021.

He has won numerous awards, including the American Music Award and the MTV Video Music Award. Zayn Malik is also the only musician to win the Billboard Music Award for New Artist of the Year twice, first as a member of One Direction in 2013 and again as a solo artist in 2017.
