Al Brown, actor best remembered for featuring in all the seasons of the HBO series The Wire, died on Friday, January 13. Jenny, his daughter, confirmed the news to TMZ on Sunday. He was 83. 

Brown was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, his daughter said. He passed away peacefully at his home in Las Vegas. Al Brown is survived by his daughter and his other loved ones.

Who was Al Brown?

Al Brown was an actor who featured in the HBO series The Wire, and in movies like Commander in Chief (2005), Doung Day, and Farcopter (2014). Before getting into acting, Brown was in the air force and served on two tours in the Vietnam war.

He joined the force at the age of 29 and after his retirement from the army, he went into a career in acting in the 1990s. 

In many of his appearances as an actor, Brown played police or army officer, or some other roles in law enforcement. Due to his background in the army, he was able to portray the roles with a high level of credibility and perfection.

His role as Stan Valchek in HBO’s The Wire, who was a corrupt police officer, earned him a lot of critical acclaim from both the fans and the critics. Brown was featured in the role in all the series of the show and he lasting legacy with his work. 

At the time of his death, his daughter was at his Las Vegas home by his side. Reports say that in spite of his Alzheimer’s struggles, the actor passed away peacefully with his loved ones around.
