Bernie Marsden, the founding guitarist of Whitesnake and a highly esteemed British electric guitar player, died at the age of 72 on August 24. The Marsden family officially announced the tragic news through a statement released by Bernie’s record label, Conquest Music.

The statement said, “On behalf of his family, it is with deep sadness we announce the death of Bernie Marsden. Bernie died peacefully on Thursday evening with his wife, Fran, and daughters, Charlotte and Olivia, by his side. Bernie never lost his passion for music, writing and recording new songs until the end.”

As per multiple media reports, Bernie Marsden died of natural causes.

Bernard John Marsden was an accomplished English rock and blues guitarist celebrated for his significant contributions to music. He is most renowned for his collaboration with Whitesnake, during which he played a pivotal role in crafting numerous hit songs, including but not limited to “Fool for Your Loving,” “Walking in the Shadow of the Blues,” “She’s A Woman,” “Lovehunter,” “Trouble,” “Child of Babylon,” “Rough and Ready,” and the chart-topping sensation “Here I Go Again,” which sold millions of copies. His musical legacy continues to be cherished by fans worldwide.

Marsden embarked on his professional music journey in 1972 when he secured his first gig with UFO. Subsequently, in 1973, he lent his talents to Glenn Cornick’s Wild Turkey before becoming a part of drummer Cozy Powell’s band, known as Cozy Powell’s Hammer.
