Christine McVie, the vocalist and keyboardist of the rock band Fleetwood Mac, has died at the age of 79. According to a statement released by the rockstar’s family, she was at peace when she passed away at a hospital. The statement further read, “we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally”.
Who was Christine McVie?
Christine McVie, the lead vocalist and keyboardist of Fleetwood Mac, was born on July 12, 1943 in a village called Bouth in Lancashire. The would-be icon was initiated into music by her father, Cyril Percy Absell Perfect, who was a concert violinist as well as a music teacher. McVie’s mother was a practising psychic and medium.

McVie studied classical music from the age of 11 to 15, by when she discovered her love for rock and roll. Fats Domingo and The Everly Brothers were some of her earliest influences.
After school, McVie enrolled herself in the Moseley School of Art in order to learn sculpting. During this time, she joined a band called Sounds Of Blue. However, the band soon spilt up. McVie joined her ex-bandmates in a new project called Chicken Shack, which brought her some recognition.

In 1969, McVie married John McVie, who was the bassist for Fleetwood Mac. She joined the band after the death of Peter Green and recorded the album Future Games with them. The band found much-needed success in 1975 with the release of the album Fleetwood Mac.
McVie took a hiatus from the band in 1998 and largely stayed out of the spotlight till 2014, when she rejoined the band and performed at a number of concerts.
By the end of her career, McVie had recorded 14 albums with Fleetwood Mac and four solo albums.

McVie was awarded the Ivor Novello Award in 2014, which is given by the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors. She has won two Grammy Awards in her career.
