Veteran Kannada actor Abhinaya Sharade Jayanthi died due to ill
health at her residence in Bengaluru on Monday. She was 76. Her son Krishna Kumar confirmed
the news of her death to Bangalore Times as he stated that she was recovering
from illnesses, but eventually breathed her last during her sleep.

She has acted in over hundreds of films that span
across five languages and has reigned on top, especially in the Kannada film
industry, where she was known by the moniker Abhinaya Sharadhe (Goddess Sharadhe
in acting)

She was part of some impressive films in Kannada
film industry from 1960 to late 80s and has received seven Karnataka State Film
Awards, four times as Best Actress and twice as Best Supporting Actress the
President’s Medal for Best Actress and two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.

She has been cited as Kannada cinema’s “most
bold and beautiful” actress by various media outlets, a title for which
she has received substantial publicity.

She was part of some impressive films in Kannada
film industry from 1960 to late 80s and has received seven Karnataka State Film
Awards, four times as Best Actress and twice as Best Supporting Actress the
President’s Medal for Best Actress and two Filmfare Awards for Best Actress.

She has also won several other awards. She has
shared screen space with the topmost stars of her era  including thespian Dr Rajkumar and iconic
filmmakers like Puttanna Kanagal and Dorai-Bhagwan in several cult-classic
films.  She then went on to work with
youngsters too and always lit up the screen with her acting.

Jayanthi’s colleagues say that this body of work,
where she reigns so supreme, will ensure she remains immortal.
