Hip-hop music manager Jonathan Hovain Hylton died on November 25, 2022. 

“It is with deep regret that we message to all family, family and colleagues that Jonathan ‘Hovain’ Hylton passed away while at his home on Friday, November 25. He was a beloved and devoted father, husband, son, brother and a proud Brooklyn representative,” a statement on his official Twitter page said.

It added: “We’d like to thank all of his close friends for all of the love and support that you have shown during this difficult time. We ask that you all continue to keep his family in your prayers and respect their privacy at this time.”

The cause of death was not mentioned.

Who was Jonathan ‘Hovain’ Hylton?

Jonathan ‘Hovain’ Hylton was a hip-hop music manager, artist and repertoire (A&R), and label owner. 

He has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Platinum-selling musicians like YFN Lucci, Flipp Dinero, and T-Pain, as well as New York luminaries like Cam’Ron, Jim Jones, and Styles P. Hovain and Sickamore are responsible for Dom Kennedy, Nipsey Hussle, and Wiz Khalifa’s first New York performances.

Hylton had founded his own management company, Hovain Hylton Management, and among his clients were Brooklyn rapper Young Lito and veteran hip-hop journalist and artist Rob Markman. He was also able to strike deals with Adidas, Avion Tequila, and Diddy’s Sean John clothing line.

Hylton, Rich Hil’s co-manager was also known for his extremely successful role in managing Troy Ave’s career. Under his direction, Ave secured numerous endorsement deals for the rapper, including Adidas, Avion, and Sean John. 

Hylton grew up in Brooklyn and worked with boxing promoter Butch Lewis before taking over as manager of Troy Ave.

According to reports, Hylton was to begin teaching at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn in 2021. The eight-week course, “The Business of Music,” was said to provide students with in-depth knowledge on publishing deals, business positions required for an artist’s success, and more.
