Who was Luke Bell?

Luke Bell was born on January 27, 1990, in Wyoming. After
graduating from high school in 2008, Bell ventured out to pursue his career in
music. He moved to Texas and gained prominence through gigs at pubs and
nightclubs. He soon became a well-known face in the Austin region.

In 2012, he released his self-titled debut album which was soon
followed by a second full-length album called Don’t Mind If I do. Rolling Stone
commented on his musical brilliance saying, “He plays classic honky-tonk with a
wink and a yodel that summons the sleeping ghosts of the country better than
any voodoo spell ever could.” His hit tunes include Ragtime Troubles,
Where Ya Been? and All Blue.

In an interview with The Boot in 2016, Bell spoke about his
personal life and made clear that he was not yet ready to get married and
settle down. He said that he enjoyed the bachelor’s life and wanted to remain
focused on his thriving musical career.

“To be honest, I live in the day, and I
count smiles. That’s it,” he said. “Listen, half the time, I end up drinking
beer with my neighbours. Life’s not that bad. The downside, in some ways, is I
don’t have a wife and kids, but at the same time, it’s pretty ideal right now.
I just travel around to other cities and hang out with other people.”

At the time of his passing, Bell’s net
worth was estimated to be close to $1 million. In 2016, a handful of his songs
were incorporated into the Netflix series The Ranch, which was hosted by No
Strings Attached starring Ashton Kutcher. Bell posted two performances of
Anytime and The Prodigal Son on his YouTube channel just a couple of months
before his tragic death.

According to Saving Country Music, Luke Bell was suffering from
bipolar disorder, a common mental illness. He was “hiding a severe
battle with bipolar disorder that he ultimately would never shake” and had
disappeared several times before. Saving Country Music reported that he would “end up in
hospitals, or at times, incarcerated.”
