Writer and producer Manny Coto, who was born in Cuba and won an Emmy for his work on 24, has died. He was 62. He went on to write and produce four seasons of American Horror Story and two more of American Horror Stories.
A family representative confirmed that Coto died on Sunday at his Pasadena home following a 13-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Coto also contributed to the final three seasons of Dexter on Showtime (2010–13) as well as the final two seasons of Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN (2003-05). He was hailed as an unsung hero for taking over as showrunner in season four and producing a string of episodes that brought back cherished franchise’s classic elements.
Producing the fifth season of the Kiefer Sutherland-starring Fox thriller 24, Coto shared the Emmy award for outstanding drama series in 2006—his first with the Fox drama. After remaining with the program through its eighth and final season, he developed and produced the 24: Live Another Day and 24: Legacy prequels, which debuted in 2014 and 2016–17, respectively.

Manuel Hector Coto was born in Havana on June 10, 1961. His mother, Norma, was a teacher, and his father, Manuel, was a doctor.
The Cotos decided that their children won’t grow up in a totalitarian society when the Fidel Castro administration revised textbooks to reflect pro-Castro ideology. His father was forced to stay behind, so in February 1962, he and his mother immigrated to the United States.

Using his father’s Super 8 camera created the horror movie Flesh about a ghostly hand that was stalking his younger brothers, Jorge, Juan Carlos, and Normi.
His wife, visual effects supervisor Robin Trickett, whom he met aboard Odyssey 5, his children Manny, Riley, and twins Charlotte and Finley, mother Norma, as well as eight nieces and nephews, are among his surviving family in addition to his sister and brother Juan Carlos.
