Hairstylist Nick Chavez died on December 23, 2022, in his Beverly Hills home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Chavez revealed that he was diagnosed with stage two pancreatic cancer in March 2020. 

His family confirmed his death on social media.

“With heavy hearts, the Chavez Family sadly announces the passing of our beloved, Nick Chavez. We will never forget his immense beauty and spirit. His memory shall live in the hearts of us all. May God bless his beautiful soul,” the post read.

Who was Nick Chavez?

Chavez, who was born in Yuma, Arizona in 1956. His family has Yaqui and Quechan Indian ancestry in addition to being Mexican-American. Nick developed an early love for spirituality, haircare, and beauty.

Nick, the second eldest of seven siblings, frequently assisted his family on their ranch. According to his official website, Nick Chavez also learnt “holistic healing techniques from his Yaqui Grandmother.”

Nick’s regular grooming of the family horses spurred an interest in his natural talents with a scissor, and he soon began creating “cool and trendy” hairstyles for his siblings and extended family.

He moved to Southern California as a young adult in 1977 and began his apprenticeship in a prestigious Beverly Hills salon, quickly graduating to full-fledged hairdresser. His abilities immediately gained him notice, and he now has a large clientele and an even larger reputation.

He began his career as a hairstylist in Southern California, where he worked under a prominent hairdresser who catered to many celebrities and high-profile personalities.

He established his own salon in Beverly Hills after working as a model and actor. Nick also has a hair care line called Nick Chavez Beverly Hills.

The hairstylist put his career on hold in his late twenties to work as a model and actor. During his European tour, he modelled for Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves St. Laurent, and Valentino.

Nick’s photo shoots were a success, with several of them appearing on the covers of magazines such as Vogue, GQ, Elle, and Esquire, as well as on a 100-foot billboard in Times Square.

He also worked on various television shows, including The Young and the Restless, Hollywood Detectives, and several TV advertisements.

When Nick returned to Beverly Hills in 1997, he built his namesake salon, which was an instant success. Margeaux Hemmingway, Lisa Hartmann, and Belinda Carlisle were among his clients.

In 1999, after struggling to find the right products for his consumers, Nick created his own brand of haircare products called “Nick Chavez Beverly Hills.” His goal was to achieve the “Every Day Gorgeous” appearance by having gorgeous, healthy hair.

The products are available both online and on home shopping channels such as QVC in the United States and overseas. Nick’s incredible “hair and makeover changes” landed him regular spots on discussion shows including E! Fashion Emergency and Extreme Makeovers.

Nick was diagnosed with stage two pancreatic cancer in March 2020. In April, he began chemotherapy. On his website, he documented his hair during chemotherapy and its recovery. He stated, “I’ve always believed that life is not meant to be lived in pain. It’s how we cope with the pain that makes the difference. Self-love is the greatest medicine.”

Along with his sister Sandra, Robby LaRiviere, Nick Chavez’s mentee and on-air and media partner, will carry on the brand. Both have contributed actively to the brand’s product development and innovation.
