Nick Nemeroff, a stand-up comedian from Montreal, Canada, whose debut album was nominated for a Juno award last year, died on Monday at the age of 32.

News of Nemeroff’s death emerged after a funeral home in Montreal posted an obituary.

“Nick’s dedication to stand-up comedy was admirable and produced amazing results. He performed on Conan before the age of 30 and was featured in multiple TV tapings, most recently, CTV’s Roast Battle Canada,” read the obituary.

Indeed, Nemeroff had followers in both Canada and the US, capturing audiences with his “unique cadence, labyrinthine deadpan, and fresh take on misdirection-driven comedy.”

“In addition to his craft, Nick’s family, friends, and The Montreal Canadiens were all of great importance to him. Endlessly sweet, supportive of others, humble about his many skills and achievements, Nick Nemeroff lived his life doing what he loved, and that is how he will be remembered,” the obituary further said.

While the cause of his death is unknown, Nemeroff’s manager, Morgan Flood of Grand Wave Entertainment, told CBC News that the comedian had “died in his sleep.”

Who was Nick Nemeroff?

Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Nemeroff first burst on to the scene when he performed in an episode of Conan O’Brien’s late-night show, ‘Conan’, at the age of 28.

He has also performed for Just for Laughs, and at the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Nemeroff is most notably known for his 2020 comedy album, ‘The Pursuit of Comedy Has Ruined My Life’, which was nominated for the Comedy Album of the Year award at the 2021 edition of the Juno Awards, a ceremony held to honour Canadian musicians and their  achievements.
