Rashmirekha Ojha, popular Odia television actor best known for her role in the daily soap ‘Kemiti Kahibi Kaha’, was found dead at her renting home in Odisha’s Nayapalli area on Saturday night. 

“The 23-year-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling of her rented home on the night of June 18. The police are waiting for her post-mortem report to arrive. Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide as she left behind a note stating that no one was responsible for her death,” a police officer told PTI.

Rashmirekha Ojha hailed from Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha. She moved to Bhubneshwar to pursue her career in acting after completing her 12th grade. She got a chance to play a pivotal role in the daily soap ‘Kemiti Kahibi Kaha’, following which she shot to fame. 

According to police, she had rented the home for two months with her male friend and was going through severe mental depression.

A suicide note was reportedly recovered from the residence, reading, “Miss you baba, I will miss you a lot from up there. I am a very bad daughter.”

Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh told local media, “As per the spot investigation, she (Rashmi) used her ‘odhni’ to hang herself. We had recovered a mobile, laptop and a handwritten note. As per the note, she was going through severe mental depression. She has held none responsible for taking such an extreme step.”

The deceased’s father alleges that her live-in partner, Santosh Patra, had a role to play in her death.

“Our calls to her on Saturday went unanswered. Later, Santosh broke the news to us. We came to know from the landlord of the house that Santosh and Rashmi lived as husband-wife. We had no idea about that,” Ojha’s father told media persons while informing about his daughter’s death.

A case of unnatural death has been registered in the case and an investigation was ongoing, police said.
