Outback Opal Hunters star Ronald ‘Ron’ Selig was confirmed to be dead by the series’ Facebook account who shared the unfortunate news on their social media account. Although Selig passed away in November of 2022, the tributes started pouring in only recently after the news was confirmed.

The post read, “We are saddened to inform that Ron Selig has passed away. Ron was a much loved member of the Outback Opal Hunters Family. A great character and amazing Opal Hunter, always chasing that colour. We will always fondly remember Ron. Ron Selig 1956 – 2022.”

Who was Ronald Selig?

Ronald Selig is an Australian reality TV star who was born in 1956. He was noted for the TV show Outback Opal Hunters.

A native of the Sunshine Coast, Selig used to do mining in the Oplaton area in outback Queensland. He was a member of a group called the Boulder Opal Boys Downunder Group and had also worked for the Eagle Eye Opal Checker as a loader driver and head chef.

Selig gained national recognition for being featured on the factual television series, Outback Opal Hunters, which airs on the Discovery Channel. His role on Outback Opal Hunters accumulated a huge fanbase throughout the show.

The 66-year-old was reportedly working at a workshop at an industrial site when he fell 5.8 meters from the roof on November 26 of last year. Resources Safety and Health Queensland’s Mineral Mines and Quarries Inspectorate stated that he“suffered fatal injuries when he fell from the roof of a workshop”.

It also stated that “the incident is still under investigation, however, it is understood the worker accessed the roof of the workshop to make repairs following damage caused by a severe weather event when a structural member failed … causing the worker to fall approximately 5.8 meters to [the] ground.”
