Shivkumar Subramaniam, a veteran Bollywood actor, died on Sunday night, according to his close friends from the film industry. While the cause of his death is still unknown, multiple Bollywood personalities poured in their condolences and also shared stories about their personal moments with Subramaniam.

Who was Shivkumar Subramaniam?

Shivkumar Subramaniam has been an active member of the acting community for more than three decades, with his latest appearance in Netflix’s ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’, starring ‘Dangal’ actor Sanya Malhotra.

Shivkumar Subramaniam, whose age is unclear, kicked off his Bollywood career behind the camera. He wrote the screenplay of ‘Parinda’, a 1989 movie made by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Before appearing on-screen, Subramaniam contributed to the screenplays of multiple noteworthy Bollywood flics, including ‘Teen Patti’, ‘Arjun Pandit’, ‘1942: A Love Story’, and ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi.’

Subramaniam then moved on from his writing days and started taking up on-screen roles. His most noteworthy performances were seen in movies like ‘Rocky Handsome’, ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’, ‘Bangistan’, ‘Hichki’ and ‘Nail Polish’. His most celebrated role was in 2014 Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s ‘2 States’.

He has also managed to secure multiple accolades through his decades-long acting career, including two Filmfare awards — one for Best Screenplay and another one for Best Story. Shivkumar Subramaniam is survived by his wife Divya and two children.

Shivkumar Subramaniam’s co-workers and friends paid their tributes on social media following the announcement of his death.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta wrote, “With profound and heartfelt grief, we wish to inform you of the passing of one of the most dignified and noble souls to inhabit human form – our dearest Shiv Subrahmanyam. Incredibly talented, he was much loved and revered personally as well as professionally.”

Indian director and producer Ashoke Pandit said that he was “extremely shocked and pained to know about the tragic demise of our dear friend, a great actor and a brilliant human being Shiv Subramaniam.”
