Stuart Margolin, an actor and two-time Emmy winner, best remembered for playing Evelyn Angel Martin on The Rockford Files, died on December 12, 2022, at the age of 82 from natural causes in Staunton.

Margolin’s death was confirmed by his family in a statement to Variety. The veteran actor’s demise saddened many. Heartfelt obituaries and messages for the grieving family have been pouring in.

Who was Stuart Margolin?

Margolin was born on January 31, 1940, in Davenport, Iowa. While he was still a child, his family relocated to Dallas, Texas

Early in the 1960s, Margolin made his acting debut as a guest star on black-and-white television programmes like The Gertrude Berg Show and Ensign O’Toole. 

He even directed an episode of Love, American Style in 1973 before obtaining a recurring role there. He then had sporadic cameos on shows including Bewitched, That Girl, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and The Partridge Family.

On NBC’s Nichols in 1971, however, Margolin received his big break when James Garner cast him beside him in a recurring role as sidekick Deputy Mitchell.

Since 1967, Margolin collaborated on a number of tracks with old friend and fellow musician Jerry Riopelle that have been included on Riopelle’s albums. Margolin first became affiliated with Riopelle’s band the Parade in the late 1960s, co-writing many of their songs and contributing percussion to a number of their recordings. Together with Shango member Tommy Reynolds, he and Riopelle co-wrote the novelty song Day After Day (It’s Slippin’ Away), which peaked at No. 57 on the U.S. charts and No. 39 in Canada in 1969.

The talented artist also directed a number of television programmes, including two episodes of “Wonder Woman” from 1977 and three episodes of “Intelligence” from the early 2000s.

Margolin’s most recent projects were What the Night Can Do, in which he co-wrote the script and starred with his stepson Christopher Martini, and Home, a short film released earlier this year, in which he voiced and appeared.

He had also won the prestigious Emmy Award twice for his remarkable performance in The Rockford Files.
