Director Thamira, director of films like ‘Aan Devathai’ and ‘Rettai Suzhi’, died on Tuesday morning because of COVID-19 complications. The director was reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19 a few days ago, and was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai.
“@DirectorTHAMIRA Passed away due to Covid. Till this morng he was admited in Maya Hospital, Ashok pillar,” PRO A. John posted on social media.

Born as Sheik Dawood in Moolakaraipatti near Tirunelveli, Thamira was known to have worked with veteran director K Balachander before he made his directorial debut with ‘Rettaisuzhi’ produced by Shankar.
The film starred K Balachander, Bharathiraja, Anjali and Aari. Though it did not do well at the box office, the film generated a lot of hype because of two veteran directors associating together for the first time.

Thamira was also in a discussion with a famous production house regarding his third directorial.
“There is no such thing as love to conquer this world, and get rid of the anger he had in him,” his last post on Facebook was shared on April 11.
