Justin Roiland, the co-creator of the Adult Swim hit comedy cartoon Rick and Morty will no longer be associated with it. Roiland was accused of domestic violence by Jane Doe, a woman he was dating, and the incident reportedly happened back on January 19, 2020, when the two were together.

It was reported on January 12, 2023, that Roiland has made a pre-trial appearance at the Orange County Court. The charges were brought against him by the Orange County District Attorney based on a criminal complaint from May 2020. Roiland has pleaded not guilty to charges and will face charges soon.

According to Roiland’s case file accessed by NBC, the 42-year-old is facing one count of felony with domestic battery leading to corporal injury as well as one count of false imprisonment by menace, fraud, or deceit.

Adult Swim’s dissociation with Roiland comes in the backdrop of the trial that he is about to face.

“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” a statement from the production house shared on social media read. “Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work for Season 7.” The season seven of Rick and Morty is expected to come out in mid-2023.

According to court records cited by NBC, Roiland was detained upon the filing of the complaint but freed on a $50,000 bond in August 2020 before being charged in October 2020.

Both Roiland lawyers and Adult Swim refused to comment on the issue when NBC reached out to them for comments. The announcement on Tuesday was the house’s first reaction since the news about Roiland facing domestic violence charges first broke early in January.
