Actor Alec Baldwin was involved in a shooting on the set of the Rust movie, where the cinematographer was killed. A recent FBI investigation concluded that the trigger must have been pulled, but Baldwin has maintained that he won’t be charged for the incident. The 64-year-old reiterated this, saying that a private investigator hired to look into the events led him to believe that neither Baldwin nor anyone else would be arrested.

Speaking to CNN, he said, “That private investigator, as you probably know, did not have a difficult time accessing the staff of the Sheriff’s Department, and that person told us, quote-unquote, ‘We’ve known in the department since January that Alec would not be charged with a crime’.”

Baldwin added “I sincerely believe … [investigators are] going to say that this was an accident,” and that he doesn’t think Rust armourer and props assistant Hannah Gutierrez Reed nor assistant director Dave Halls would be charged either.”

Prior to the FBI investigation, Baldwin had noted that he didn’t fire the gun. It was only pointed in the direction when it went off. The actor’s lawyer noted that the report from the feds was misconstrued. He added about his client, “When Alec Baldwin showed up that tragic day for filming, he had not a single reason in the world to think that there was a live bullet in that gun, in that church, or even on that property.”

Recently, Baldwin opened up about his fears that Donald Trump supporters would kill him when the former president expressed disbelief that the Rust shooting was an accident. Drawing parallels to Jan 6, Baldwin noted that Trump had the ability to incite supporters and he was “nervous” about being a target.

The actor has often made fun of Trump on Saturday Night Live, appearing as the 45th President of the United States.
