Music enthusiasts throughout the world, specially from North America and Europe, were handed a shock when popular singer Shawn Mendes announced that he is cancelling the rest of his Wonder: The World Tour to focus on his mental health. The Canadian star, who rose to fame from song covers on Vine, posted a statement on his social media accounts, to announce his decision.

The 23-year-old singer, who has seen a meteoric rise to fame in the last decade, said that he has understood that he was not ready for the world tour and the toll it brings. Mendes also added that he had spoken with his team and a group of medical professionals before he took the decision. The singer also promised his fans that he would return to the fold after he has “taken the right time to heal.”

“As you guys know, I had to postpone the past few weeks of shows since I wasn’t totally prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take on me.

“I started this tour excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away,” Mendes wrote in his statement.

“After speaking with my team and working with an incredible group of health professionals, it has become more clear that I need to take the time I’ve never taken personally, to ground myself and come back stronger,” he added.

The It’ll be Okay singer also stressed that it broke his heart to announce the postponement. He also said that it does not mean that he will not be creating new music and hoped to see the fans on tour in the future.

Mendes has received support from several other stars from the music industry, including Demi Lovato, who have hoped he will return to singing soon.
