Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui on Sunday, released a video on YouTube titled ‘Munawar Faruqui Leaving Comedy’ urging people to stop spreading hate. In the video he also brushed off rumor of him leaving comedy, which started circulating on social media following the announcement of the title.

Faruqui was released from Indore central jail on February 7 after the prison authorities received the order of the Supreme Court. He was in the jail since January 1 following his arrest for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Faruqui started the video by saying, “Those who like me, do watch this video till the end. Those who don’t like me, I request them to watch. And those who don’t know me are happy in life because they are not using the internet.”

He then proceeded to ask a few questions. He said, “You decide what you want to do. There are some who are spreading hate. What do you want to do? To spread hate or love or ignore them and use the internet in the right way?”

He added, “Earlier, we used to use the internet for making friends, downloading wallpapers, ringtones and we would get happiness in what we would do, but today are only making enemies, enemies who we don’t even know. Why are we doing this? Why have we forgotten that it is for entertainment and information?”

Following the 30-year-old’s release,  the grounds of his arrest have been questioned by many people including his fellow comedians including Kunal Kamra. Faruiqui is known for his political content and criticism of the government, just like Kamra.

He said in the video, “If we want to ban something, why don’t we ban hate on the internet. Without thinking, people argue about things for hours, hurl abuses. why can’t we use it property? The mindset, the politics, anyone can become a victim. I have not even become the victim, but mildly affected for the thing I did not even do.”
