Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, better known by her stage name Gansta Boo, was a rapper from Memphis who was formerly associated with the band Three Mafia 6 and later their spin-off version Da Mafia 6ix. She died at her home on Sunday aged 43, Three 6 Mafia bandmate DJ Paul confirmed on Instagram

Gangsta Boo was the band’s second female member after K-9. She was with the group since its inception and left them sometime in 2002, according to reports. The most popular narrative behind why the rapper parted ways with the band is financial disputes.

She released her second album, Both Worlds #69, and it was also reported that the band barred her from promoting the album.

In a November 2001 interview with MTV, when she was asked if there were any problems between her and the band, she had said: “There is no problem.” She added: “Sometimes people grow apart, and basically that’s what it is. There’s no drama, no beef.”

“It’s still the same. I just kind of grew apart, and I’m not doing things that they’re doing. I’m not cursing in my music no more. We just grew apart like a marriage,” she had said then.

In the same interview, the deceased rapper had said that she has found god. As a result, she said, she wanted to remove the prefix ‘Gangsta’ from her name. She had renamed herself “Lady Boo”.

“I wasn’t living the gangster lifestyle, so I wanted to lose the name,” she said. “Everybody was always telling me that it didn’t fit me anyway. I was young. I grew up and matured, so I decided to go with ‘Lady Boo,’ since I say Lady Boo in my raps anyway. That was kind of like my code name.”

Thus, there is a belief that she left the band with the feeling that the image that was being cultivated with the association did not suit her. She wanted distance and individual identity.

Former member of the Three Mafia 6, who joined Gansta Boo again in Da Mafia 6ix, gave an interview in 2015 explaining the reasons why she left the band in 2002.
