Superman & Lois Season 3 will not see Jordan Elsass return as Jonathan Kent. Warner Bros Television, in a statement released on Tuesday evening, cited “personal reasons” explaining why the 20-year-old wouldn’t be reprising the part and announcing that it would be recast.

“Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to ‘Superman & Lois’ for Season 3 due to personal reasons” the statement read, adding, “The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast.”

However, there have been no exact details of Elsass’ departure from the series, as per the network. Variety reported from sources close to the production that the exit isn’t linked with a workplace-related issue.

The series follows Superman or Clark Kent and Lois Lane, along with their two children Jordan and Jonathan Kent. It belongs to the Arrowverse on The CW, which began with characters in the Arrow series but then expanded to include those in other shows as well, like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.

The news of Elsass departing comes six weeks after the Season 2 finale aired and as per insiders, production for Season 3 is slated to begin in Vancouver soon, but Elsass had been unable to reach the location within the deadline, Variety reported.

Thus far, in the show, Jonathan has had to move from Metropolis to the Kent family farm and has taken his time to adjust to life there, exploring new relationships which come with their individual dynamics. For example, his bond with Candice is a little shaken when Jonathan discovers she’s selling X-Kryptonite until Superman’s son decides to try some for himself.

The series comes from Greg Berlanti, who’s also the mind behind other DC shows on The CW. Berlanti executive produces Superman & Lois along with Todd Helbing, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.
